Tenerife too strong for Nyiregyhaza

In today’s action of Group C of the women’s Indesit European Champions League, Marichal Tenerife beat Titasz-NRK-Nyiregyhaza 3-0 (18, 23, 15) in Nyiregyhaza. The match was played in front of 1300 spectators and lasted 62 minutes. The team from the Canarias jumped to the top place in the group after the two matches hosted by the Hungarian team.

The first four points were won by the powerful guests, but Nyiregyhaza countered with a 8:5 lead. However it was the last time the Hungarian champion had an advantage at any of the technical time-outs. The first set was finished after 20 minutes with the score 25:18. Tenerife built a significant lead in the second set (21:13), but the hosts fought back with spectacular rallies and gave the stars from Spain a hard time in the finish off the set. The brave Hungarians run out of fuel in the third set and could not repeat their performance from the match of the previous day losing 15:25 in the third set. Still, the spectators in Nyiregyhaza were delighted by their favourites and the world-class opponents. Magaly Carvajal Rivera and Elena Godina were the outstanding personalities of today’s game. The Spanish centre-blocker and the Russian spiker (both from Tenerife) scored 16 and 15 points, respectively. Katalin Schlegl was the most successful player in Titasz-NRK-Nyiregyhaza with 7 points. “We had not known our opponents at all, therefore it took half a set to adjust our game-plan.” – told Carvajal. “Despite the losses, I’m very satisfied with the way my team performed.” – Zsolt Ludvig, the head-coach of the Hungarians summarised the two days.
