The CEV Volleyball Gala Vienna

VIENNA, Austria, 12 October 2003 - Italian Andrea Sartoretti from Italy and Polish Malgorzata Glinka are crowned as the best European volleyball players in Vienna, Austria on Sunday. The stars of European Volleyball received their award during the European Volleyball Gala in the Austrian capital.

Sartoretti was definitely the best European player this year. The 32-years old Italian guided Italy to the European title in Germany last month. It was no surprise that Sartoretti was voted as Most Valuable Player of the Men''s European Championships and also was awarded as best European player. CEV President Andre Meyer and Barbara Greul of sponsor Austrian Airlines presented the award to Sartoretti in Vienna on Sunday. „It is a great honor for me to win this award”, Sartoretti said.

Glinka was one of the key players behind the success of Poland during the Women''s European Championships in Turkey last month. Poland took the European title surprisingly after defeating Turkey in the final 3-0. Glinka, who turned 25-years old two days after the European Championships, was by far the best scorer of the event.

During the same evening, Beach Volleyball players Okka Rau and Stephanie Pohl from Germany were awarded as Queens of the Beach. Austrians Niki Berger and Clemens Doppler were honored as the Kings of the Beach. Both couples surprisingly claimed the title in Alanya, Turkey at the end of August.
